There is nothing better that going to sleep after a hard days work in a comfortable bed.

But just as important as a comfy bed is the way in which your bedroom makes you feel.

Feng Shui

The ancient Chinese art of arranging living spaces called Feng shui is thought to maximise the flow of energy in a room.

It has been suggested that a bedroom with good “Feng Shui”  can strengthen the bond between a couple and promote a good relationship.

With an adequate amount of 7-8 hours of sleep every night, it is also thought that you can control your weight, prevent chronic diseases, avoid negative thoughts, and increase your productivity.

The saying “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” is something most of us remember, but rarely practice with our busy lives most of these days.

Peaceful atmosphere

Certain colours are supposed to promote a peaceful atmosphere for restful sleep in Feng Shui.

Off- white pastel creams and earthy tones are popular.

The bed should be the dominant feature in a bedroom and if possible, should have a centred headboard.

The headboard should be hard up against the wall with 2 matching side tables/cabinets as well as 2 matching pillows.

The commanding position and doors

The commanding position is the best position for a bed. It should not face directly opposite a door, in order words, the door should be offset as you look at it.

According to Feng Shui, by being able to see the door from an angle, means that you are walking through life with your eyes open, and are ready to take advantage of opportunities the world has to offer.

You could also place a mirror strategically, so that you could see the door if your bedroom space did not allow the bed to be placed in such a way.

However, mirrors are also thought to reflect energy around a space, which could disrupt your sleep.

If you do need to have a mirror, make sure it’s facing and reflecting something that you love looking at.

By placing your bedroom furniture in such a way, it is believed that you may be able to rest easy knowing that your positive energy is still flowing, even while you sleep.

Try not to hide clutter under the bed as it can create unnecessary stress, even if you don’t realise it at first.  It is also not recommended to have a TV in a bedroom, that is, if you want a bedroom that makes sleep easy.

Less is more and a nice clean, cleared bedroom sets the stage for uncluttered thinking and restful sleep.
